Job Description

SACRISTAN

As Sacristan, you are the senior liturgical minister for the celebration of Sunday Eucharist. You coordinate and oversee the logistics and all the liturgical ministries.
1. Setting up for and cleaning up after Mass
2. Supervising altar servers and instructing them on any changes or additions to procedures during a particular liturgy.
3. Finding a replacement if they can’t be at their scheduled mass or, if they cannot find a replacement, letting the head sacristan know ahead of time so he/she can find a replacement.
4. Ensuring there are enough Eucharistic ministers in place. If the scheduled Eucharistic ministers are not signed up 10 minutes before mass, it is your responsibility to find substitutes from the congregation.
5. Giving any special instructions to Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters, Ushers.
6. Ensuring that both lectors are present and giving them any last minute instructions or changes in procedure.
7. If, on occasion, altar servers do not show up, you will be required to fill their role, so it is important that you be familiar with altar server procedures. It is not necessary to wear an alb, although you are free to do so.
8. Greeting visiting priests and informing them of the procedures in place for the liturgy. Accommodating their wishes for any changes in procedure
